Chocolate Covered Blueberries
Feel berries popping in your mouth but with chocolate! A delicious chocolate snack with a fruity after taste and a fun activity to engage kids with.
You will never buy the expensive chocolate covered blueberries from the grocery store again because these are too easy and fun to make yourself.
Especially if you have kids at home, this is a good way to engage them for some time. My 7 year old daughter enjoyed dipping each blueberry in chocolate and was proud to show them off as her creation!
This one is a must-try with kids when they are bored over the weekend. I have also mentioned which other fruits you can use instead of blueberries ahead in this post.
Which Chocolate to use?
Use any: milk, white, dark! Though dark and milk chocolate would be best suitable for blueberries as it complements the flavour perfectly. Also, they are easier to work with too than white chocolate.
I have used milk chocolate for this recipe. You can even use this chocolate to make it a crispy treat.
Which fruits can be dipped in chocolate?
You can use strawberries, raspberries, sliced bananas or apples, pomegranates, and even dried berries and nuts like almonds and raisins instead of blueberries in this recipe.
Chocolate coated raisins and almonds sound delicious to me as I type out the rest of this article.
Are Chocolate covered blueberries healthy?
They are only as healthy as the chocolate coating on them! Of course they are healthier when you eat them as is. These chocolate covered blueberries are great when you get sweet cravings but want do not want to indulge.
Milk chocolate will have added sugar so if you want to make these “healthier”, coat them with dark chocolate. Also, consider making them healthier by making them at home as you will use only chocolate but there will be many preservatives and stuff when you buy the packet ones.
I have not used any coconut oil or shortening or butter with the chocolate. Only blueberries dipped in chocolate.
How to make Chocolate covered blueberries?
- Wash the blueberries in a bowl of water and pat them dry on a paper towel. Use fresh blueberries.
- Break a bar of milk chocolate in to small pieces. Keep this bowl of milk chocolate over a smaller bowl having hot water. This will melt the chocolate without burning it.
- Dry the berries completely after which it is time to coat them.
- Once the chocolate is melted, coat berries individually in chocolate. Use a fork or a toothpick.
- Transfer them to a parchment lined plate.
- Refrigerate for 20-30 minutes.
If at any time you notice that the chocolate is not coating the berries easily and is thickening, place it over a bowl of hot water so that it melts and you can coat the berries easily.
