Hot Chocolate with Marshmallows
A delicious hot chocolate drink to make when the weather gets cold.
A stormy rainy day here in Krakow was all I needed to make this delicious hot chocolate drink.
How I enjoy watching the storm from inside the house! I can sit for hours looking at the thunder and rains.
And given that it was so easy to get this together, it was a no-brainer to make this and sip while watching the storm. Try this hot chocolate with or without marshmallows the next time it rains or snows outside.
Ingredients & Instructions
You will need:
Milk: Just your regular milk.
Dark Chocolate: I have used dark chocolate with 50% cocoa. You can change the chocolate according to your preference. It doesn’t necessarily have to be baking/cooking variety of chocolate. You can use any dark chocolate bar from the grocery store.
Cocoa Powder: I have used a spoonful of the regular cocoa powder that we use for cakes and cookies.
Vegan Marshmallows: You will find these marshmallows which are made without gelatin. I prefer to use these. Though these are optional and I do not prefer them personally, but my daughter likes them so here we are with marshmallows in hot chocolate. #momthings
The instructions for making a hot cuppa are as easy as boiling milk!
- I have used 250ml milk. You can double/triple this recipe according to the number of people. Heat the milk in a saucepan. It is not necessary to bring it to boil.
- Measure 50 grams of dark chocolate which is roughly 9 squares for my bar of dark chocolate which I picked from the grocery store.
- As the milk starts heating, add the dark chocolate and a spoonful of cocoa powder and mix well. Also, the sugar.
- Heat the milk till the chocolate is melted. Pour in a heat safe glass and put some marshmallows.
- You can let the marshmallows sit in the hot chocolate for few minutes so they kind of melt and form a “cloud” over the hot chocolate.

Tips:
- If you want a darker flavour of chocolate, make this with only 200ml of milk.
- If you like lighter chocolate flavour, skip the cocoa powder and use only dark chocolate.
- Make different flavours by using different extracts like hazelnut, mint or hints of powdered spices like red chilli powder, cinnamon or star anise.
